Felicia Sharpfanger's interview

Last night I was in Shreveport, LA at a "29 Mules" concert and I run into a young female vampire.

She was hanging out with a young good looking man, who seemed to be fascinated with this woman (if you could call her that).

I approached the couple cautiously. After a hissing contest from the vampire, who was apparently overly protective of her pray, I managed to get her to chill out and let me buy her a True Blood.

The evening turned out to be more than I ever expected.

Felicia, that is her name, is a tormented soul. She is someone who has managed to survive the most horrible pains imaginable, the loss of her beloved family, the torture of a cruel maker, and the coming of age in a complete different world. She just recently moved to Louisiana from Arkansas, where she was visiting her maker whom she hadn't seen since they both came together from Spain after the Great Revelation. Felicia, born vampire in 1769, is originally from Torreon, Spain. She speaks perfect English but you can hear a hint of her accent when her voice crackles with the pain of her memories.

After hearing her story, I wondered how many more tortured souls live out there in this cruel world of ours.

True Blood - Season 2 Episode Guide

Rumor has it and so do we.

Here is the episode guide for Season 2.

I matched pictures from the HBO Wiki to the episode as I speculate these scenes will play out in the show. I'll have to wait till June to see if I got it right!

Let me know what you think.

Episode 1:  “Nothing But the Blood” (Air date: Sunday, June 14, 2009, 9:00pm/10:00pm ET/PT)

A shocking murder outside Merlotte’s has Bon Temps reeling.  Meanwhile, Sookie’s (Anna Paquin) relationship with Bill (Stephen Moyer) is tested when she learns about Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), and of his involvement in her uncle’s death.  Sam (Sam Trammell) recalls a shape-shifting encounter he had with Maryann (Michelle Forbes) as a 17-year-old.

Jason (Ryan Kwanten) gets a sudden windfall that allows him to pay for a leadership retreat with the Fellowship of the Sun.  Two adversaries find themselves sharing a mysterious dungeon and, possibly, the same fate.

Episode 2:  “Keep This Party Going” (Air date: Sunday, June 21, 2009, 9:00pm/10:00pm ET/PT)

Sookie is forced to cope with Bill’s obligations to Jessica, as well as the romantic inconveniences the teen vampire’s presence creates. At the Light of Day leadership conference, Jason makes a favorable impression on its ambitious leaders, Steve(Michael McMillian) and Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp), though not on his jealous roommate Luke (Wes Brown).

Maryann casts her spell on Merlotte’s patrons, and Sam proves helpless to stop the revelry.

Episode 3:  “Scratch My Back” (Air date: Sunday, June 28, 2009, 9:00pm/10:00pm ET/PT)

When Sookie is attacked by a mysterious creature, Bill must enlist Eric’s (Alexander Skarsgård) help to save her.  At the Light of Day retreat, Jason has second thoughts about the sect’s anti-vampire agenda, but Sarah and Steve counter his doubts with flattery and promises.  After snapping at Tara (Rutina Wesley) and new employee Daphne (Ashley Jones), Sam decides to cut and run.  A bored Jessica heads over to Merlotte’s, where a smitten Hoyt (Jim Parrack) falls under her spell. At another Maryann-hosted party, Tara finds her attraction to Eggs (Mehcad Brooks) interrupted by a swirling, aphrodisiac fog.

In Love with a Vampire, Out for now...

Character of the week: Maryann

Michelle Forbes as Maryann

Is she the Maenad? If you need any more clues, you haven't been paying attention.

Michelle Forbes is not new to the entertainment industry, in fact she has been playing wonderful roles since the early nineties.

If you are a Sci-Fi fan, you may know her for her role as Ensign Ro Laren in Star Trek The Next Generation (Season 5, 1991/1992) or for her portrayal of the cold hearted, results driven Admiral Helena Cain in Galactica (Season 2, 2005).

Outside of her Sci-Fi roles, she played strong women in a variety of successful shows such as: Alias (as Maggie Sinclair, 2005), Boston Legal (as Juliette Monroe, 2006), and Lost (as Karen Decker, 2008), among others.

You may remember the fun side of Michelle with her appearance in Seinfield as Julie (1 episode, Season 6, 1995).

Or if you often go to the movies, you may have seen Michelle playing Brazen in Escape from LA with Kurt Russell (1996), or my favorite of them all Kalifornia with Brad Pitt, Juliette Lewis, and David Duchovny (1993).

Michelle gives every role her best and that is A LOT!

During the first season of True Blood on HBO, we were introduced to Maryann. A so-called "miracle worker" that helps a drunk-driving, homeless Tara. At first, one wonders if she is the maenad that doesn't really appear in Charlaine Harris' stories until Living Dead in Dallas. However, Alan Ball introduced us to Michelle as a great transition into Season 2.

Some people wondered if Maryann is the maenad. Really? Do you have any doubts?

In Episode 12, Maryann is sitting in what looks like a meditation session with a pig by her side while Tara is being introduced to another character that will be prominent in the upcoming season "Eggs". Is she meditating or is she manipulating the events that are going on inside the house?

Maryann seems to know more about the people of Bon Temp than meets the eye. We can see that she knows Sam and that he doesn't like to have her back in town. Were they lovers in the past or is Sam indebted to her for her success in the bar business? Remember what you learned about the maenad in Book 2 and you can speculate about what will happen in True Blood's upcoming season.

In Michelle's own words "Maryann has a hidden agenda" and we know it cannot be good!

It will be interesting to see the development of her character and enjoy her be part of a cast that is getting better and better as the show progresses.

What are your thoughts about Maryann and her agenda? What do you think will happen next?

A few trivia points ...
  • She is currently acting in two HBO Series: True Blood and In Treatment
  • A Star Trek action figure was made in the likeness of Ensign Ro Laren, her character on the Star Trek series.
  • A quote from an interview in 2004 about her offer to play Admiral Cain in Galactica "I tend to play a lot of authoritative, strong women" Really? We didn't notice... Don't worry, you are great at it!
  • Was born in Austin, TX, January 8, 1965
  • Moved to NYC at the age of 16 to start her acting career
  • Michelle is 5 ft 10' tall

Does Eric love Sookie?

A lot of readers out there are wondering if Eric loves Sookie.

Can Eric love a human? Does he remember how to feel?

What did he mean when he said "It's best" "Perfect" while they were making love?

I think Eric loves Sookie the best way he knows how to love and so does FarDareMai2 at Fanfiction.net who wrote a beautiful one chapter piece that describes what Eric feels for Sookie. It is set during Dead and Gone after Sookie is tortured by Lochlan and Neave.

Enjoy ...

FarDareMai2 -- I hope you don't mind me sharing your stories with other readers.

In Love with a Vampire, Out for now...
Dead and Gone, the much anticipated installment of the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris, leaves readers at a loss for words.

In this last installment, the beloved heroine Sookie Stackhouse finds herself surrounded by conflict, betrayal, death and war, while readers get lost in a series of unexplained plots, characters without depth, and a story that has "sequel" written all over it.

The great Were Revelation brings our furry friends to the forefront of the social scene but don't be fooled, Eric, Pam, and Bill continue to be the cool kids in the block.

Sookie learns that she is wedded to the sheriff of Area 5 and finally gives her viking - and us readers - the passionate sex that heated up the pages of book 4.

Quinn is back, oops, sorry, he is not back.

With gruesome death of a were-panther, which is left at Merlotte's parking lot, one would think that hell has come to take control of Bon Temps, but the story is not quite simple and there are other forces that want to mess up with the humans in Louisiana.

While the fae war is at the core of the story and intends to give readers a better understanding of Sookie's heritage and Niall's world, it does not bring closure or depth to the leading female. Instead, it shows Sookie as a shallow character whose only emotions are driven by tantrums and irrational behaviors, more characteristic of a teenager than a woman who is supposed to be exceptionally strong.

Although, Mrs. Harris has indicated numerous times that Sookie will never be turned vampire, her lack of emotion when faced with the death of her friends and family, make one wonder if her heart is turning cold from all the vampire blood she has ingested.

As a follower of her work, I trust that Charlaine Harris will eventually deliver the goods, but in this book I felt disappointed by the lack of closure and definition that leaves me hanging on to the story until the next book comes up in 2010.

My favorite Eric moments ...

Some friends prompt the idea to list our favorite Eric's moments (True-blood.net) so given that I am on Eric's team here you go:

Living Dead in Dallas
Sookie calls Eric to help her find out who killed Lafayette and to accompany her to a "sex party", which is where she thinks she can find out about her friend's death. He shows up to her house in a pink spandex outfit.... They are talking at her house prior to the party like two girlfriends and Sookie says "Hey, our hair's the same color". Eric answers "Sure is, girlfriend." ... "But are you blond all the way down?" Imagine this conversation between a human and a 1000 year old viking vampire!

As he is kissing her inside the cabin where the sex party is going on (so she can read people's minds ...). He says "Relax Sookie, I have you"

Oh, have me Eric!!!!

Club Dead
Sookie was staked by the FOTs guy at Club Dead and Eric playing the part of Leif, a friend of Alcide's goes to her side when that occurs. Eric says "You don't know how hard it is" ... "not to bend over and lick". Sookie is thankful because she knows that if he does, everyone else in the bar will do to, and they will not only lick, they will bite her. He replies "that's the only thing stopping me". Isn't he a loving guy? He rather save her than satisfy his inner-manly needs.

When he leaves to get her the car, he whispers to her "I hate having feelings". Well boy, welcome to the land of people in love!

Dead to the World
This is my favorite but Eric is not Eric really ... or is he? The shower scene is my favorite and of course when he promises her to leave everything for her.... isn't that real love?

Definitely Dead
When all hell breaks loose at Sophie-Anne and Peter's party... Eric gets carried away with excitement and went to where Sookie was hiding from the fight. He kissed her and then picked up Wybert's head and said "Bowling for vampires" and went back to the join the fight.
Gotta love that sense of humor!

All Together Dead
This is one of my favorite books as it establishes the bond between them.
I like when Eric comes to Sookie's rescue when she has the can in her hand and she complains that there are zero vampires around and he says "One"... "we are bound a bit too tightly to suite me, Sookie". But he is there.... to die with her if it comes to it.

I also like when Andre tries to bond with Sookie and he shows up.. the whole scene is my favorite in all books --- even over the sex scenes!

This is the only book that made me cry...

From Dead to Worse
My favorite here are ...
When he takes Sookie to meet her relative and she comes back smelling of fae. Eric tells Sookie "When you smell like that, I just want to f*ck you, and bite you and rub myself all over you"
The other beautiful scene is when Victor Madden is at Sookie's house and Eric has to make a choice. Bill pledges to die to protect Sookie, and so does Eric --- Awwwww..... I also liked it when he sits in her bed and remembers everything that happened in Book 4!!!!

What are your favorite Eric Moments?

If you haven't read the books yet, YOU MUST! You need to experience falling in love with these vampires.....

Dead and Gone soon to hit the stores

Dead and Gone by Charlaine Harris
In stores May 5, 2009 (USA)

Summary (Amazon.com)

Except for Sookie Stackhouse, folks in Bon Temps, Louisiana, know little about vamps—and nothing about weres.

Until now. The weres and shifters have finally decided to reveal their existence to the ordinary world. At first all goes well. Then the mutilated body of a were-panther is found near the bar where Sookie works—and she feels compelled to discover who, human or otherwise, did it.

But there’s a far greater danger threatening Bon Temps. A race of unhuman beings—older, more powerful, and more secretive than vampires or werewolves—is preparing for war. And Sookie finds herself an all-too human pawn in their battle.

In Love with a Vampire..

Welcome to my blog.

I have been reading about Vampires and Werewolves a lot lately and regained interest in the concept of love through exchange of blood and eternal life.

I always liked the idea of someone roaming the earth for ever, even when Dracula seemed to be the incarnation of evil. I believe that the story has much more depth and I can see I'm not the only one. Two great writers have brought this story back to life with two series that I enjoyed reading and continue to enjoy talking about.

Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer

In this story, vampires live amongst us. Some of them are evil and continue to survive feeding on humans. Some of them found an alternative source of nutrition in the blood of animals and can peacefully coexist with normal people. The series breaks all of the concepts and common knowledge about vampires. Meyer's vampires can walk in the sun light and although they shine like a thousand diamonds, they don't burst into flames. These vampires don't have fangs, they cannot be killed by a stake - only by breaking their bodies into pieces and burning them. In addition, they are not afraid of holly water or crucifixes, they never sleep - nope, no coffins. Meyer's vampires can have children and can fall in love.
Other magical creatures in the Twilight series are the werewolves, which can be found amongst a select group of native americans that - as legend tells - descend from real wolves. This tribe lives to protect humans from the "cold ones" by turning into werewolves. The legends of the werewolves are absolutely fantastic as well and these creatures are very much part of the story.

Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris

Harris' vampires are the typical bloodsuckers that you all know and love. The main difference with the famous legends is that these vampires can live amongst humans without killing them because of a new invention by a Japanese company called "TruBlood". This is pretty much synthetic bottled blood that can give vampires the nutrition they need to survive -- or at least that is what they advertise! In Charlaine Harris' books vampires are fighting for equal rights, they have a political structure, rules and laws that are strictly followed. These vampires are trying to mingle with society in what the author calls "mainstreaming". Some vampires continue to feed on humans without turning them. Some humans known as "fangbangers" love to be bitten at their own risk. Vampire-human relations are filled with sex and danger that attracts the most adventurous people and those that are stupid enough to fall for it. Vampires are sought for their blood because it has immense powers, it is a drug. The story portraits the complexities of human societies, discussing topics such as race, segregation, human rights, politics, sex, love, friendship, drugs, violence, etc.
In addition to vampires, the series features all sorts of supernatural creatures and it shows how wonderful yet dangerous the world of magic can be.

At the center of both sets of stories, there are women. Young women that find themselves in love with a supernatural being. These two heroines are very different. Bella is sweet, naive, goofy and in need of protection. She wants to belong to the supernatural scene and is ready to change and give up on her life for the man she loves. Sookie, on the other hand, is independent, strong, stubborn, and she does not want anyone to protect her or tell her what to do.

Both series have something in common: LOVE and ETERNITY. And this is probably the reason why I'm so attracted to these books.

I hope you can join in the discussion and enjoy the stories as much as I do.
